§ 5. Method of election and term of office of the members of the board.

The successors to the members of the board named in this Act shall be elected by the city council of the City of Tuscumbia, Alabama. At the last meeting of the city council of the City of Tuscumbia, in June each year that the term of a member of the board expires in July following, the said city council shall elect the successor of the member of the board whose term expires on the second Monday in July following and the person so elected shall become a member of the board on the second Monday in July following and shall hold the position for a period of nine (9) years and until his successor is elected and qualified. A member of the board may succeed himself if the city council desires to re-elect him. Whenever a vacancy occurs in the board by resignation, death, or some other cause, the city council shall immediately fill said vacancy by electing another person to the board, who shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term of the member he succeeds.
