§ 12-37. Recreational activities.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person in a park:

    (1)

    Bathing and swimming in designated places: To bathe, swim, or wade in any waters or waterways in or adjacent to any park, except in such waters and in such places as are provided therefore, or to swim, bathe, wade or congregate in any such areas contrary to the directions of posted signs placed by the authority of the director, or contrary to the verbal instructions of any park ranger or other attendant at the time in charge of such area.

    (2)

    Structure on beach or bathing area: To erect, maintain, use or occupy, on or in any beach or bathing area, any tent, shelter, or structure of any kind, unless there shall be an obstructed view into said tent, shelter, or structure from at least two (2) sides. No tent or other structure shall be erected in any public recreational area except where designated by the director.

    (3)

    Indecent exposure: To appear in a public park in a bathing suit or garment which indecently exposes the person of the wearer, or which costume does not conform to customary accepted standards.

    (4)

    Bath houses: To dress or undress on any beach, public area, or in any vehicle, toilet or other place, except in such bath houses or structures as may be provided for that purpose.

    (5)

    Launching or removing boats: To launch a boat or to remove a boat from the water at any place or point within the public recreation area, other than those places or points designated for the purpose of launching or removing boats.

    (7)

    Operation of boats: To enter into or depart from the waters immediately adjacent to the public recreation area at a speed greater than trolling, or to enter into or depart from said area by any route other than those designated from entering and leaving such area.

    (8)

    Hunting and firearms: To use, carry or possess firearms of any description or air rifles, spring guns, bows and arrows, slings, or other forms of weapons, unless expressly permitted by the director, or to hunt, trap, or pursue wildlife at any time in the park area. It shall be unlawful for any person to shoot into the park areas from areas beyond the boundaries thereof.

    (9)

    Picnics in designated areas: To picnic or lunch in a place other than those designated for that purpose. Attendants shall have the authority to regulate the activities in such area when necessary to prevent congestion and to secure the maximum use of the area for the comfort and convenience of all. Persons using the area shall comply with any directions given by the attendants to achieve this end.

    (10)

    Availability of picnic facilities: All individual fireplaces, tables and benches, in the park area are provided under the rule of "first come; first served" in the use of such facilities. It shall be unlawful for any person to violate such rule.

    (11)

    Nonexclusive use of picnic area: Unless a permit is obtained for the exclusive use of any of the park facilities by any group, the use of any portion of the picnic area, or the buildings or structures, therein, to the exclusion of other persons, shall be unlawful and no person shall use such area and facilities for an unreasonable time if the facilities are crowded.

    (12)

    Duty of picnicker to put out fire and clean up: To leave a picnic area before the fire is completely extinguished, or to leave the area without placing trash, boxes, papers, cans, bottle, garbage, and other refuse, in disposal receptacles if provided, or to fail to carry such debris away if no such receptacles are available.

    (13)

    Camping: All campsite vehicles must be registered for a campsite. All camping must be done in the areas designated by the director as camping areas.

    (14)

    Games: To take part in the playing of any games involving throwing or propelling balls, stones, arrows, or model airplanes, except in areas set apart for such from of recreation. The director may prescribe the location and type of games to be enjoyed in the area, and it shall be unlawful for any person to engage in such games contrary to the directions of the park attendant, park ranger, or other person in charge of such area.

    (15)

    Horseback riding: To ride a horse except on a designated bridle trail or ring, or to ride a horse without proper restraint and without due care.
