§ 16-22. Removal of abandoned, etc., vehicle authorized.

  • Whenever any police officer of the city shall find upon any public street, public alley, parkway, commons or sidewalk of the city, or upon any street within the police jurisdiction of the city, any vehicle which such officer has reasonable cause to believe to be lost, stolen or abandoned, or any vehicle which is, or is likely to become, an obstruction on a public way or to be without proper protection by reason of the person in charge or control thereof having been arrested and incarcerated, or any vehicle which has been wrecked or damaged, or any vehicle which has remained parked on any public street, public alley, parkway, commons or sidewalk of the city continuously for a longer time than twenty-four (24) hours, such officer shall have authority immediately to remove such vehicle or cause the same to be removed to, and impounded at police headquarters or in a depository provided by the city for such purposes.
