§ 2-27. Powers and duties of mayor.

  • (a)

    The mayor shall have the powers and perform the duties provided in Chapter 43 of Title 11 of the Code of Alabama (1975, as amended) and such other powers and duties as provided in this Code and the Code of Alabama, as amended.

    (b)

    The mayor, when present, shall preside at all meetings of the council. At his discretion, the mayor may vote as a member of the council on any question coming to a vote, except in case of a tie, in which event he must vote. In case of the absence or disability of the mayor, the functions of the office shall be exercised by the chairman pro tempore of the council and, during his absence or disability, by such person as the council may appoint from its membership, which appointment must be entered upon the minutes of the council.
