§ 4-113. Measurements.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Calculation of display area. The display area of a sign or advertising device is measured by the smallest square, rectangle, triangle, circle or combination thereof, which will encompass the entire sign or advertising device; excluding trim, frame, apron, posts, uprights, braces or other structural members which support it.

    (b)

Measurement of height. The height of a sign shall be determined by measuring the distance from the finished grade at the base of the sign to the highest point on the sign or sign structure. If the sign has been placed on a berm or otherwise established at a base elevation that differs significantly from the surrounding grade, the height of the sign shall be measured as though the base of the sign were at the same elevation as the centerline of the street nearest to the base of the sign. The height measurement of signs on property lying below the grade of the street shall be taken from the adjacent curb elevation or in the absence of a curb, the street centerline elevation.
