§ 4-118. Flags.

  • Flags shall be allowed as accessory uses in accordance with the following provisions:

    (a)

    Residential districts. Flags shall be allowed in residential districts and the FP-1 and MH-1 districts in accordance with the following provisions.

    (1)

    No flag in these districts shall bear any commercial message;

    (2)

    The maximum number of flagpoles on one (1) site shall be one (1);

    (3)

    The maximum height of a flagpole shall be twenty-five (25) feet;

    (4)

    The maximum size of a flag shall be five (5) feet by eight (8) feet.

    (5)

    See separate provisions for flags at institutional uses in these districts in section 4-119(c).

    (b)

    Nonresidential districts. Flags shall be allowed in any zoning district other than those that are subject to subsection (a) of this section in accordance with the following provisions:

    (1)

    A flag bearing a commercial message shall be considered a sign and shall be included in computing the maximum sign area and maximum number of signs allowed on a site;

    (2)

    The maximum number of flagpoles on one (1) site shall be three (3);

    (3)

    The maximum height of a flagpole shall be the maximum height allowed for a freestanding sign in that location, plus five (5) feet;

    (4)

    There shall not be more than two (2) flags per pole at any one (1) time;

    (5)

    The largest dimension of a single flag shall not exceed one-third ( 1/3 ) of the height of the flagpole; if there are two (2) flags on a pole, the total height of the two (2) flags shall not exceed one-third ( 1/3 ) of the height of the flagpole.
